Dashcam & Tracker Fitting Congleton

Cameras and hidden GPS trackers fitted around Congleton, Buglawton, Astbury and Mossley. A lot of the work here is on tradesmen’s vans that sit loaded on a driveway from six in the evening until six the next morning, which is a different brief from fitting a camera to a commuter car.

The Van On The Drive At Three In The Morning

Congleton is a commuter town full of people who take their work home in the back of a van. The A34 and the A54 put a lot of trades within reach of Manchester, the Potteries and mid-Cheshire, and the result is streets of houses with a loaded panel van parked outside overnight. That is the vehicle people ring us about. Not a crash, not a claim — a side door prised at the lock, or a van taken off the drive entirely with a week’s worth of tools in the back and a Tuesday morning that now starts with phone calls instead of work.

It is worth being clear about what each part of the answer does, because the three get muddled together. A camera does not prevent anything; it identifies, and it gives you something to hand over rather than a description. A tracker does not prevent anything either; it tells you where the vehicle went, which is what turns a write-off into a recovery. The only part that actually slows anybody down is mechanical — deadlocks, slamlocks, repeater locks and plating, which we cover under accessories fitting. Layered together they work. Bought one at a time in the hope that one of them is a complete answer, they disappoint.

How we set a van up for overnight parking

On a van that stands on a drive every night, the camera work is mostly about coverage and waking up. A forward camera sees whoever walks up to the cab, an interior channel covers the cab itself where keys and paperwork live, and a load-area camera covers the doors and the racking. Parking mode is set to trigger on motion or impact rather than record continuously, because nobody needs eleven hours of footage of a dark driveway — they need the ninety seconds when something moved. Because the van is usually driven for a decent run each day the charging headroom is reasonable, though we still set the cutoff with a winter weekend in mind rather than a summer weeknight.

Tracker siting on a working van takes a bit of thought. The obvious hiding places are the first ones checked, the racking and ply lining get unbolted sooner or later, and anywhere too close to the roof skin or a metal bulkhead compromises the signal. We look for somewhere unexpected, with a sight of the sky, out of the heat, and reachable again later without stripping half the interior. Where there is no sensible permanent feed, a self-contained unit with its own cells is often the better answer precisely because cutting the battery does not silence it. We will also say honestly that nearly all trackers need an airtime subscription to do anything at all, so the hardware is not the whole cost.

Deadlocks & Lock Work

The mechanical half of the job — deadlocks, slamlocks and repeater locks that buy you the minutes a camera and tracker cannot.

Motion-Triggered Parking Mode

Set to wake on movement at the driveway rather than grind through a full night of empty footage and a flat battery by Monday.

Correctly Fused Wiring

Congleton Van Security FAQs

Questions We Get Asked

Will a tracker stop the van being taken, or only help find it afterwards?

Only the second, and anybody who tells you otherwise is selling. A tracker is a recovery tool — it tells you and the police where the vehicle has gone, often while it is still moving. Prevention is mechanical, which is why we usually talk about locks in the same conversation as the tracker rather than afterwards.

Is a camera any use if whoever comes to the van is covered up?

More than people assume. Clothing, build, gait, the vehicle they arrived in and its plate are all commonly what identifies someone, and a timed clip also establishes exactly when it happened, which matters for a claim. It will not always produce a face, and we would rather set that expectation now than after the event.

Can a camera watch the van all night and still leave enough for a six o’clock start?

Yes, with a triggered parking mode and a correctly set cutoff. Recording only when something moves cuts the overnight draw to a fraction of continuous recording, and the cutoff stops the camera entirely before the battery falls to where the starter struggles. A van that gets a proper daily run has plenty of margin for that.

Do deadlocks and a tracker work together or does one make the other pointless?

They cover different stages of the same problem. Locks slow entry down and often mean the attempt is abandoned, while the tracker deals with the case where the whole vehicle goes. Fitting both is normal on a van carrying valuable tools, and it is worth telling your insurer what you have, since some policies reflect it.

Can you cover the load area as well as the road ahead on the same system?

That is a straightforward multi-channel install. A forward camera, an interior cab channel and a load-area camera can run from one recorder with a single hardwired feed, and in a dark bulkheaded van we would suggest a small interior lamp too, because an unlit load bay records very little worth watching.

Does a tracker need a monthly subscription to work?

Nearly all of them do, because the unit has to send its position over a mobile network and onto a platform you can log into. Some self-contained units run on a prepaid SIM instead. It is worth factoring the ongoing cost in when you choose the device rather than being surprised by it a month later.
