Dashcam & Tracker Fitting Derby
Camera and tracker installs for Derby drivers, from Allestree and Oakwood round to Littleover, Sinfin and Alvaston. A great many of the vehicles we fit here are company cars or lease vehicles, so the install is planned to leave nothing behind when the car goes back.
Company Cars, Lease Vehicles And The Install That Comes Out Again
Derby runs on company-provided transport to an unusual degree. Between the big engineering and manufacturing employers and the number of households with a lease agreement on the drive, a large share of the cars we fit cameras to are not owned by the person driving them. That changes the brief. The install has to be invisible in use and completely reversible on return: no holes, no cut factory wiring, no adhesive on a trim panel that will lift the finish when it comes off, and a power take-off from a designated fuse position rather than a splice into a loom somebody will inspect at the end of the agreement.
Modern lease cars also make the mirror area crowded. Forward-facing camera modules for lane keeping and emergency braking, rain and light sensors, and heated or acoustic screen elements all compete for the same strip of glass, and the mount has to go somewhere that does not sit in front of any of them. On some cars that means slightly offset, on others it means lower on the passenger side than people expect. We work it out on the vehicle with the camera live on screen, because a mount bonded to the wrong square inch of a heated windscreen is not a mistake you can quietly undo.
Car parks, trackers and what insurers ask for
The second thing Derby produces more of than anywhere else on our patch is damage sustained while parked. Thousands of cars spend the working day in large shared employer car parks, and a reversing van or a swung door leaves a mark that nobody owns up to. Parking mode is the answer, but it has to be set up for a ten-hour stand rather than a ten-minute one — a buffered or impact-triggered mode that wakes on movement rather than recording continuously, with the cutoff voltage set high enough that the car still starts for the drive home in January. Done that way the camera records the thirty seconds that matter and sleeps through the rest.
Trackers come up here for a different reason. Insurers increasingly make a tracker a condition on higher-value and higher-risk vehicles, and the policy wording often specifies a particular category of device and sometimes an installer on their own list. Read that wording before buying anything. We will fit and wire a tracker properly and site it where it is not obvious, but if your policy names an approved scheme we will tell you plainly that the scheme list is what counts rather than letting you find out when you claim. For everyday theft deterrence on a car kept on a Chaddesden or Spondon drive, a well-hidden unit and a sensible immobiliser habit do most of the work.
What We Fit Around The City
All of it done at your home address or wherever the vehicle spends its day, with the car driveable again as soon as we finish.
Reversible Camera Installs
Hardwired front and rear cameras planned so everything can be removed at the end of a lease with no holes, no cut looms and no marked trim.
Parking Mode For Long Stands
Impact and motion triggered modes configured for a full working day in a car park, with the cutoff set so the car always has enough left to start.
Trackers For Insurance Terms
GPS units fitted and hidden properly, with an honest word first about what your policy actually specifies and whether an approved scheme applies.
Company Car & Van Fleets
Several vehicles fitted to a matching specification so drivers moving between cars find the controls and the card in the same place every time.
Clean Power Take-Off
Feeds taken from designated fuse positions with the correct rating, keeping cameras well away from airbag, CANbus and driver-assistance circuits.
Footage Ready For A Claim
Time and date set correctly, framing checked so plates are readable, and the saving process shown to you before we leave the drive.

Questions We Get Asked
The car is on a lease agreement. Will a hardwired camera cause a problem on return?
Not when it is fitted with that in mind. We take power from a fuse position designed to be used, cut nothing, drill nothing and keep adhesive to the glass rather than the plastics. When the agreement ends the camera, the kit and the cable come out and the only trace is a clean windscreen.
My insurer wants a tracker on the car. Does it matter who fits it?
Sometimes it matters a great deal. Many policies specify a device category and a list of approved installers, and a correctly fitted unit from outside that list can still leave you arguing at claim time. Check the wording first — if it names a scheme we will say so rather than taking the booking and letting you assume it counts.
Can a camera catch someone reversing into me in a works car park?
Yes, provided parking mode is set up for a long stand rather than left on a factory default. A motion or impact triggered mode will wake, record the event and go back to sleep, which is what you want over a ten-hour shift. Expect the clip to show the other vehicle clearly and the plate only sometimes, depending on the angle it approached from.
There is a lot of equipment behind my mirror already. Is there still room?
Almost always, though not always where you would first put it. Lane-keep cameras, rain sensors and acoustic or heated screen zones all have to be avoided, so the mount sometimes ends up offset or a little lower than on an older car. We position it with the camera running so you can see the view before anything is stuck down.
Do I need my employer’s permission before fitting a camera to a company car?
It is worth asking, and most fleet policies are relaxed about a non-invasive camera. Where it matters is if the vehicle is shared or if you intend to record the cabin, since that brings other people’s data into it. A quick email to whoever manages the fleet usually settles it in a sentence.
Is a rear camera worth it on a hatchback with a reversing camera already?
They do different jobs. A factory reversing camera only runs in reverse gear and often records nothing at all, whereas a rear dashcam records continuously and is what proves you were stationary when somebody ran into the back of you. Given how much queuing traffic there is on the ring road, rear channels are the ones we are asked for most often here.
